Follow Me: Uncle Kracker

I chose this song because I used to love it. It was the first song I knew every word to and I thought Uncle Kracker was the man. As I got a little older, I always would tell people my favorite song was Follow Me by Uncle Kracker. Whoever I would tell would always smirk and tell me how much that song sucks. The past few years if there is an ipod playing at a party I go and choose the next song to be Follow Me because I love seeing the reaction it gets. In regards to the lyrics, I had no idea what the lyrics meant until a few years ago because I never paid attention to what the song meant, I just had it memorized. It has a pretty awful message about hooking up with a woman who is married. A stanza goes: "And I worry 'bout the ring you wear Cause as long as no one knows That nobody can care Your fellin guilty And I'm well aware But you don't look ashamed And baby I'm not scared." Although the lyrics aren't the best, it has a catchy beat which is why I have always liked this song. Uncle Kracker was at Osu last week or the week before, but I cannot say I paid to go watch him.

  1. That is true devotion to a song. And I think it's hilarious that you play it at parties just for the reaction. And yeah, it isn't a good message but I like the chorus :)

  2. I love all types of music from bluegrass to hip hop . However, I do not find myself listening to Uncle Kracker. But I did just listen to "Follow Me" on youtube for old times sake and I have to admit, I enjoyed it.

  3. This is one of those songs where the lyrics don't seem to matter. You hear the beat and the type of music first. You can find yourself singing songs and not even realizing what you are singing because its just too catchy. I always find it interesting what I find myself singing because of this.

  4. Not the biggest uncle kracker fan but I do have to say this song is one of my favorites by them. It is weird to think of how songs that we find catchy when we are younger end up translating into lyrics that we didn't understand at the time. Kind of funny to think of a younger kid walking around reciting a love breakup song and not really knowing what it was about.

  6. Whoever tells you this song sucks doesn't know music! This is probably UK's best song (rotten lyrics and all). I did the same thing with the Spice Girl's "Wannabe," it was the first song I knew all of the lyrics to and I never knew what they really meant until a few years ago. I didn't really realize how sexual their lyrics were since I was still playing with Barbies!

  7. The lyrics really do seem to contradict the beat. Just listening to the instrumental it sounded like a song about a new beginning which I guess it kind of is. But, the lyrics are really about leaving his significant other.

  8. This was actually the first song I learned how to play on guitar so it's one of those songs that brings back memories. It's even harder to play and sing it at the same time because of the syncopation of the lyrics and the music. It's definitely a crowd-pleaser though.

  9. I think that it's interesting that this is your favorite song. When I was younger, I liked it too because it has such a catchy beat and melody. The lyrics do send a terrible message though and I personally find it funny how many kids have sang those lyrics without even thinking.
