Possible Commonplace Paper
I am going to continue writing on the idea that torture happens all around us and people either are too oblivious to see it or just simply disregard it. I am definately going to cut out most of the background to the plot because that took up a lot of space. In my Analytical Paper, I mentioned how word choice is important in how people see a situation. I am going to go more in depth about that because in Dollhouse they use the word "treatment" in replace of torture, which distracts the viewer from what is really happening. Although the words could be used in exchange for one another, people react differently to hearing "treatment" compared to "torture." I will prove my point by giving examples of the actives constantly getting "treatments" and even though the actives are put through these situations regularly, nobody realizes how wrong it is.

You have a topic that is very general, but there is alot you can talk about by tying your ARP and CP idea. Torture happens in many ways, so show in the paper numerous examples from the show and real life.
ReplyDeleteThis is really cool and super relevant because of Guantanamo Bay. You might've already done this, but I would compare the use of the word "treatment" and compare it to how the Bush Administration used the phrase "alternative interrogation techniques" when talking about Gitmo, when really all they wanted to do was avoid a human-rights abuse accusation.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting topic here. I think you definitely have the compelling part down here and if you can relate it to some of the things that Tess mentioned above I think you will have a really good CP paper.
ReplyDeleteThis is really interesting and I think will open a lot of people's eyes to things that they've never seen going on around them.
ReplyDeleteThis is definately a timely piece that you are working on. I believe that torture in general is misunderstood and that a lot of people would find your topic interesting and will want to learn more about it.
